ABOUT ME

Hi, I’m Heather!

… or as I introduce myself to the kids I teach… “Teacher Heather!”

I would like to help your child increase their confidence in the English language through practice, sounds and conversation.

My education background is a good balance in both the English language and teaching. I have a BA degree in English and Psychology (Rhodes University) and Honours in Psychology (University of South Africa) . I have a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (College of Modern Montessori). I also have TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign/ Second Language) (Foundation TEFL)

I’ve had over ten years teaching experience in the classroom. The teaching bug bit me initially when I worked in Taiwan teaching English as a second language. Back in South Africa I got married and worked in a Montessori school teaching kids to read for more than eight years and then had a three year break to have my child.

In the picture below you’ll see my son, Nicholas, born 2012, who is an amazing little guy! I then went back to teaching – this time it was toddlers – for three years.

In 2018 life had a change for me – my husband had a massive stroke, and after three months in hospital, passed away. I couldn’t afford to continue with my preschool job and had to leverage my skills to support myself as well as move towns (from Johannesburg to PE/Gqeberha) to be closer to family.

Everyone faces challenges in life in different ways, and I’ve chosen to build and heal through the children that have profoundly blessed me with their joy and energy for life.

I started teaching online – adults at first at English First – before circling back to what I really enjoy – teaching kids (Talk915 and Novakid). I can honestly say it’s been the most rewarding experience watching the children grow in both their abilities and confidence.

Hope to see you in class soon!
